Connectivity & Collaboration
Niagara University BioMedical
Research Institute
Niagara University is at the forefront of biomedical research, empowering undergraduate students to make a tangible impact on healthcare. Our state-of-the-art Biomedical Research Lab, located on the prestigious Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, provides undergraduates with unparalleled opportunities for hands-on research and collaboration.
Under the expert guidance of Dr. Mary McCourt, students engage in meaningful research projects that address critical health challenges. Our lab is an extension of the B. Thomas Gallisano Center for Integrated Sciences at Niagara University, fostering a dynamic research environment that bridges academic discovery and real-world application.
state-of-the-art facility
for Cutting-Edge Research
Thanks to a $750,000 federal grant secured in 2023 by Congressman Brian Higgins, as well funding from NYS ESD and the Dr. Lawrence Jacobs Foundation, our BioMedical Research Lab is equipped with advanced instrumentation and specialized spaces to support a wide range of research. This advanced technology enables students to conduct in-depth research on a variety of biomedical topics.
Central Core Laboratory
This versatile space serves as the heart of our lab, providing three dedicated lab benches for formulation development and chemical synthesis. It’s where innovative ideas take shape and new research avenues are explored.
Specialized Research Areas
To accommodate diverse research needs, we have three specialized labs:
Cell Culture Facility: Equipped with biosafety hoods and incubators, this BSL-2 lab is designed for the careful handling of cell cultures and viral growth.
Instrumentation Lab: Home to our cutting-edge equipment, including HPLC, DSC, DLLS, confocal microscope, and qPCR, this area empowers students to conduct sophisticated analyses. Our confocal microscope is particularly renowned for its exceptional imaging capabilities.
Chemistry Development Lab: This space is dedicated to chemical synthesis and formulation work requiring controlled environments.
Additional Amenities
Our lab also includes dedicated storage areas for liquid nitrogen and cell tanks, ensuring the safe and efficient management of critical research materials.
Optimized Workflow and Collaboration
The layout of our lab is designed to foster collaboration and streamline research processes. Undergraduate students have the opportunity to interact with peers from different research areas, leading to cross-disciplinary innovation.
Exclusive Focus on Cholestosome Research
Our lab is dedicated to advancing knowledge of our Cholestosome research. By concentrating our efforts on this specific area, we aim to make significant contributions to the development of new treatments and therapies.
